The Positive Outlook for Space Amidst U.S. Security Innovation Challenges
In a recent report released by the Ronald Reagan Foundation, the positive outlook for the space industry amidst innovation challenges in U.S. security has been highlighted. The foundation’s National Security Innovation Base Report Card, published on 19th March, shed light on various issues and trends in security innovation, including a panel discussion on innovation in space.
The panel discussion included esteemed individuals such as Gen. Michael A. Guetlein, Vice Chief of Space Operations in the U.S. Space Force, Sen. Mark Kelly from Arizona, Mr. Joe Laurienti, Founder and CEO of Ursa Major, and Dr. Christopher Scolese, Director of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). The panelists discussed the challenges faced by the space industry and its connections with the government, showcasing both problems and success stories.

General Guetlein mentioned that the Space Force continues to attract talented individuals, with more applicants than they can intake. This collaboration has led to reduced development times, shrinking them from 5-10 years to 2-3 years.
