In this article, we will explore the possibilities and discuss what fans can look forward to in the future of this beloved series.
The first season of El Cid followed the life of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, a legendary Spanish knight and military leader who played a key role in the Reconquista, the Christian reconquest of Spain from the Moors. The show depicted Rodrigo’s rise to power, his battles against enemies both foreign and domestic, and his complex relationships with friends and foes alike. With its epic scope and rich historical detail, El Cid quickly became a favorite among fans of historical dramas.
Following the success of the first season, Amazon Prime Video wasted no time in renewing the show for a second season. Season 2 is currently in production and is expected to premiere in late 2021 or early 2022. The upcoming season will continue to explore Rodrigo’s journey as he navigates the treacherous political landscape of medieval Spain and fights to protect his kingdom from external threats.

The show has garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base, making it a strong contender for renewal. Additionally, the creators have hinted at their plans for future seasons, suggesting that there is more story to tell beyond Season 2.
If El Cid is indeed renewed for a third season, fans can expect more epic battles, political intrigue, and personal drama as Rodrigo continues his quest to unite Spain under Christian rule. The show is known for its attention to historical detail and its complex characters, so viewers can look forward to seeing how Rodrigo’s relationships with his allies and enemies evolve over time.
In addition to Rodrigo’s personal journey, Season 3 may also delve deeper into the larger historical events of the period, such as the ongoing conflict between Christians and Moors, the struggles for power within the Spanish nobility, and the influence of external forces on the Iberian Peninsula. With its rich tapestry of characters and storylines, El Cid has the potential to continue captivating audiences for seasons to come.

José Velasco and Luis Arranz have proven themselves to be skilled storytellers with a deep understanding of the historical period in which El Cid is set.
