According to a company spokesperson, the account @DJTDesk violated the company’s ban evasion policy by posting material “associated with a suspended account.” Related accounts, however, were still involved on the social media site, according to the BBC.
In January, Mr Trump was barred from Twitter indefinitely after expressing support for rioters who stormed the US Capitol. On Tuesday, he unveiled his own messaging channel, dubbed “From the Desk of Donald J Trump.” “Posts copied from Save America on behalf of the 45th POTUS; Originally written via DonaldJTrump/Desk,” according to the @DJTDesk account’s profile, according to NBC News.
Twitter says that while accounts will post content from Mr Trump’s new website, individuals will not be able to “circumvent” the ban. “Making someone else operate on your behalf, an account which represents your identity, persona, brand, or business persona for a different reason” is one of the “evasion” laws. Four accounts with identical bios were flagged by the BBC as sharing material from Mr Trump’s new website.
Twitter suspends Trump’s account but not for the first time
When asked what will happen to these accounts, Twitter did not answer. The four accounts were still active at the time of publication. One individual had also recently tweeted about evading the ban. It’s unclear who’s behind the pages, but the majority appear to be unaffiliated with the former president.
According to NBC News, Trump spokesman Jason Miller confirmed that the @DJTDesk account was not created by or with the permission of anyone connected to the former president. Mr Trump’s new platform was revealed the day before Facebook’s independent Oversight Board upheld the social network company’s decision to suspend him, but also stated that the duration of the suspension could be reconsidered within six months.
