San Jose Shooting in California; Many People were Killed

San Jose shooting by a gunman  during a morning meeting of San Jose Railroad network staff on a city train in the Santa Clara area.A California transportation officer has reportedly shot and killed eight of his co-workers.Dozens of family members of the victims gathered at the Santa Clara Support Center following the incident.

The tragedy took place on the grounds of a city train

Earlier in the day, a gunman opened fire on a train station in the Santa Clara area during a morning meeting of San Jose railroad staff.

Police officers arrived at the scene while the shooting was still going on, but eight people were shot dead in the meantime.And the ninth was an armed assailant who, according to some unconfirmed reports, committed suicide.

Police told CBS News that there was no exchange of fire with the gunman.Local officials said they conducted a more extensive search of the site after finding at least one explosive device in the bomb disposal unit.The assailant was identified as 57-year-old Samuel Cassidy.Police are still unaware of his motive for the shooting.

Federal police officers and criminal investigators have all been on the scene and investigations are ongoing.

Local media reported that a fire had broken out shortly before MrKasidi’s house, and police said they were investigating whether the fire was intentional.Lori Smith, the local sheriff, told reporters that when police arrived at the scene, the shooting was still going on and the assailant killed himself as soon as he learned that police were approaching.

The Santa Clara rail network has suspended its services for the next few days.The shooting caused heavy traffic in the San Jose area at around 6:30 a.m. local time.

Different tragedies in America is not from today

In the first five months of this year, 230 shootings and mass killings took place in the United States, according to the Archives of Violence with Firearms.Activists say that in 2019, 417 shootings led to mass killings in the United States.

In 2020, despite the epidemic, this number reached 600 cases.The massacre is usually attributed to shootings in which at least four or more people are killed.

In March, eight people, including six Asian women, were shot dead in a beauty salon near Atlanta.Less than a week later, 10 other people were shot dead in a store in Boulder, Colorado.

California Gov. Gwyn Newsom expressed disgust with the recurrence of the shootings and said that the recurrence of such atrocities has left many citizens indifferent.

He said:We have to ask ourselves, what has happened to America?What happened to us?When are we going to control this situation?When are we going to lay down our weapons?

In Washington, a White House spokesman reiterated the president’s request to the Senate for approval of plans to restrict gun ownership.US Vice President Kamala Harris, once a California official, told reporters the shooting was a tragedy.Santa Clara is the largest residential area in Northern California, which includes the San Francisco Bay Area.Known as Silicon Valley, the region hosts companies such as People, Adobe and the eBay online store.
