The tragedy took place on the grounds of a city train
Earlier in the day, a gunman opened fire on a train station in the Santa Clara area during a morning meeting of San Jose railroad staff.
Police officers arrived at the scene while the shooting was still going on, but eight people were shot dead in the meantime.And the ninth was an armed assailant who, according to some unconfirmed reports, committed suicide.
Police told CBS News that there was no exchange of fire with the gunman.Local officials said they conducted a more extensive search of the site after finding at least one explosive device in the bomb disposal unit.The assailant was identified as 57-year-old Samuel Cassidy.Police are still unaware of his motive for the shooting.
Federal police officers and criminal investigators have all been on the scene and investigations are ongoing.
Local media reported that a fire had broken out shortly before MrKasidi’s house, and police said they were investigating whether the fire was intentional.Lori Smith, the local sheriff, told reporters that when police arrived at the scene, the shooting was still going on and the assailant killed himself as soon as he learned that police were approaching.
The Santa Clara rail network has suspended its services for the next few days.The shooting caused heavy traffic in the San Jose area at around 6:30 a.m. local time.
Different tragedies in America is not from today

In Washington, a White House spokesman reiterated the president’s request to the Senate for approval of plans to restrict gun ownership.US Vice President Kamala Harris, once a California official, told reporters the shooting was a tragedy.Santa Clara is the largest residential area in Northern California, which includes the San Francisco Bay Area.Known as Silicon Valley, the region hosts companies such as People, Adobe and the eBay online store.
