Samsara Stock Drops Despite Earnings Beat, Guidance Boost

Watch This Key Price Level: Samsara Stock Analysis

Samsara (IOT) shares dropped more than 6% in extended trading on Thursday despite reporting quarterly results that exceeded analysts’ expectations and raising its full-year earnings and sales outlooks. The fleet-management software provider has been experiencing broader adoption of its platform across various industries, leading to positive financial performance.

Quarterly Results and Guidance

For the three-month period ending May 4, Samsara reported adjusted earnings of 3 cents per share, surpassing the consensus estimate of 1 cent per share. Revenue for the quarter reached $280.7 million, a 37% increase from the previous year and beating analysts’ expectations of $272 million.

In the current quarter, the company expects net sales between $288 million and $290 million, representing a significant jump from the same period last year. Samsara also anticipates adjusted profit between break-even and 1 cent per share, with the top-line outlook exceeding analysts’ projections.

Guidance and Macroeconomic Factors

Samsara raised its full-year sales guidance to between $1.205 billion and $1.213 billion, up from the previous forecast of $1.186 billion to $1.196 billion. The company also increased its profit outlook, expecting adjusted earnings of 13 to 15 cents per share.

CEO Sanjit Biswas remains optimistic about Samsara’s growth potential as more customers in various industries adopt its platform. However, the company’s full-year outlook considers the potential impact of worsening macroeconomic factors on its business.

Technical Analysis and Key Support Level

Samsara shares have been on an upward trend, with the 50-day moving average crossing above the 200-day moving average to form a bullish golden cross signal. Despite reaching a new record high last month, the stock has retraced below the 50-day moving average ahead of the quarterly results.

Investors should pay close attention to the $31 level on the chart, where Samsara shares encounter a confluence of support from a horizontal line and the upward sloping 200-day moving average. Failure to hold this key technical level could lead to a test of longer-term support around $22.25.

Following the earnings-related weakness on Friday, Samsara shares fell 6.7% to $32.52 in after-hours trading on Thursday.

Conclusion

Despite reporting strong quarterly results and raising its full-year guidance, Samsara shares experienced a decline in extended trading. Investors should monitor the key price level of $31 for potential support levels as the stock navigates through market volatility and macroeconomic challenges.
