Pilot Flies Plane in Circles to Give Passengers View of Northern Lights

Adam Groves and his fiancee Jasmine Mapp had an unforgettable experience during their four-night trip to Iceland. After days of searching for the northern lights, they were treated to a stunning view of the aurora borealis from the sky when their EasyJet pilot made a 360-degree turn.

The plane was travelling from Reykjavik to Manchester when the pilot switched off the lights, allowing passengers on the left-hand side of the plane to witness the rare display. Mr Groves and Ms Mapp were on the right-hand side, but the “very kind” pilot looped around so everyone could enjoy the view.

The couple had already had a memorable trip, as Mr Groves had proposed to Ms Mapp at a beauty spot on the island’s south coast. The northern lights were the perfect ending to their journey.

An EasyJet spokeswoman said that their crew always go “above and beyond” for customers and that they were delighted to have shared this special view with them.

The UK enjoyed a second night of spectacular views of the northern lights as the country was lit up by the aurora borealis. Mr Groves described the sight as “incredible” and said it “topped off” his trip.

The northern lights are a natural phenomenon caused by collisions between electrically charged particles released from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere. They are usually seen in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, but can sometimes be seen in other parts of the world.
