Senior Congress chief P Chidambaram on Saturday stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement to repeal the farm legal guidelines with out holding a Cabinet assembly and alleged that it’s only underneath the BJP that legal guidelines are made and unmade with out prior Cabinet approval.
The Congress chief’s assault got here a day after Modi in an handle to the nation introduced the repeal of the three agri legal guidelines that had triggered a 12 months of protests by farmers.
“Home Minister hailed the PM’s announcement as showing ‘remarkable statesmanship’. BJP President said that PM has ‘immense care for farmers’. Defence Minister said that PM had taken the decision considering the ‘welfare of the farmers’. Where were these worthy leaders and their wise advice in the last 15 months?” Chidambaram stated on Twitter.
“Did you notice that the PM made the announcement without holding a Cabinet meeting,” the previous Union minister requested.
“It is only under the BJP that laws are made and unmade without prior Cabinet approval,” he went on to allege.
Hundreds of farmers had been protesting and had been encamped at Delhi’s borders since final November with a requirement for repeal of the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, and forging of a brand new regulation that ensures MSP for crops.
The Centre, which has held 11 rounds of formal dialogue with the farmers, had maintained that the brand new legal guidelines are pro-farmer, whereas protesters claimed the legislations would depart them on the mercy of corporates.
