Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict: Armanien and Azaerbijani fighter jet shot down

According to a famous proverb, eye in return of an eye would make the whole country blind. Therefore, the matter of the disputed area i.e Nagorno Karabakh between the two states could be sorted out via diplomacy or table talks which would be a better solution rather fighter jet shot down. 

Confliction between Armenia and Azerbaijan took a new turn, by the attack of Turkey on one of the fighter jets of Armenia. SU-25 an Armenian fighter jet shot down by Turkey’s F-16 Fighting Falcon (an air force aircraft). Fighter jet pilot’s name was Major Valeri Danelin who had been killed during this incident. Despite the denial by both countries Turkey and Azerbaijan; Armenia showed the ruins of their jet reeking at the mountainside.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan killed enough civilians, at least more than 50 people have died until now. Borders are being continuously attacked by bombshells. Being in a fear that Russia could be drawn into a proxy war after the trading blows came close to Moscow and Ankara in Syria last year; Turkey has been backing Muslim Azerbaijan.

Reason of confliction

Armenia and Azerbaijan are the two countries on the Northern side of Iran, the reason for conflict between the two countries is Nagorno-Karabakh. It is a territorial-referendum, internationally recognized as a part of Azerbaijan, mostly governed by the Republic of Artsakh. Azerbaijan is under this dispute due to Armenophobia ( fear, hatred/prejudice towards Armenians).

From 1918 to 1920, target killing of Armenians occurred in Azerbaijan. And as of today, since 1994 ceasefire’s biggest outbreak of the decades-old conflict entered the fifth day today; October 1, 2020.

President Aliyev’s address to media

Ilham Aliyev President of Azerbaijan while addressing to media said, “Recently, Armenia’s military provocations against Azerbaijan have become regular. In July, our servicemen and a civilian were killed as a result of artillery fire in the direction of Tovuz (Terter, District) on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border ( as of 27th September 2020 ). It is not hidden that the first fire, including artillery fire, was opened by Armenia, and the first to die was  Azerbaijani servicemen. Azerbaijan gave a decent response to the enemy and the enemy was unable to move an inch.”

Prime minister Nikol’s response to President Aliyev’s press conference

On the contrary, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan; in response to Ilham Aliyev said, “I am drawing the attention of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries and the entire international community on the seriousness of the situation. The outbreak of the large-scale war in South Caucasus, the brink of which we are standing now, could have the most unpredictable consequences. It could go out of the region’s borders and take wider volumes and threaten international security and stability.”

He further stated that “Turkey’s aggressive behaviour, which had a very dangerous manifestation, especially during the July events and up to this day, causes serious concern. The fact that Turkey is maintaining such dangerous behaviour is fraught with the most devastating consequences for South Caucasus and adjacent regions. The international community must prevent with united efforts the dangerous development of events and refrain the region from all attempts of destabilization.”

Continuing his speech during the press conference he also said, “… The adversary is already suffering serious human and technical losses.”

UN anticipation on the whole Nagorno-Karabakh matter

The UN Security Council is anticipated to discuss the shoot up fighting in the breakaway region of Nagorno later Tuesday. A spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke to both the Presidents and Prime ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia and called for, “an immediate ceasefire, a de-escalation of tension and return to meaningful negotiations without precondition or delay,” according to the associate press.

Another fighter jet shot down by Armenian air defence

A few hours before, another fighter jet of Azerbaijan has been shot down by Armenian Air Defence.
