Leonardo da Vinci is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists and thinkers in history. However, da Vinci was also a prolific inventor, scientist, and philosopher, with interests ranging from anatomy to engineering.

While much is known about da Vinci’s professional accomplishments, his personal life remains shrouded in mystery. However, many historians believe that da Vinci was gay, based on evidence from his personal writings and relationships.

One of the most significant pieces of evidence supporting the theory that da Vinci was gay is his collection of personal notebooks, which contain numerous references to male beauty and homoeroticism. In one passage, da Vinci writes, “The act of procreation and anything that has any relation to it is so disgusting that human beings would soon die out if there were no pretty faces and sensuous dispositions.”

Additionally, da Vinci had several close relationships with men throughout his life. One of his most significant relationships was with Gian Giacomo Caprotti, a young apprentice who worked with da Vinci for several years. Caprotti was known as “Salai,” which means “little devil,” and was rumored to be da Vinci’s lover.

Despite the evidence supporting the theory that da Vinci was gay, some historians remain skeptical. Some argue that da Vinci’s writings and relationships with men could be interpreted in other ways, and that it is impossible to know for sure whether he was gay or not.

Regardless of his sexual orientation, there is no denying the impact that Leonardo da Vinci had on the world. His art and ideas continue to inspire and influence people today, nearly 500 years after his death. The new television series “Leonardo” is sure to shed new light on this fascinating figure and his enduring legacy.
