Lawsuit says Tesla topics girls to ‘rampant sexual harassment’

Former Tesla worker claims she skilled ‘nightmarish’ sexual harassment situations and that managers did not act on her complaints.

Tesla Inc.’s feminine staff face “rampant sexual harassment,” in keeping with a lawsuit by a girl who works within the electrical carmaker’s Fremont, California, manufacturing unit.

Jessica Barraza, 38, mentioned in a criticism filed Thursday in state courtroom in Oakland that she skilled “nightmarish” situations as a night-shift employee at Tesla, with co-workers and supervisors making lewd feedback and gestures to her and different girls a number of occasions every week. When she complained to supervisors and human assets, they did not take motion, Barraza says.

She suffers from panic assaults on account of three years of such habits and “is afraid to return to work knowing that her body could be violated at any time with no repercussions,” the criticism says. “She is on medication and in therapy, and she is not the same person she used to be.”

Tesla didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark. Barraza’s go well with was reported earlier by The Washington Post.

The case comes as Tesla is already going through a staggering $137 million verdict in favor of one other employee who mentioned he skilled pervasive racism on the Fremont manufacturing unit. Tesla is now interesting that award.

A juror in that case informed Bloomberg News that the panel hoped to prod Tesla executives to “take the most basic preventative measures and precautions they neglected to take as a large corporation to protect any employee within their factory.”

Tesla has been dogged by allegations of discrimination at its Fremont plant for years, however most staff are sure by arbitration agreements that maintain most complaints confidential.

In 2020, 31 complaints had been filed with California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing alleging discrimination at Tesla on the premise of race, age, gender expression, incapacity and being pregnant, in keeping with knowledge obtained from public information. The state company issued right-to-sue letters in a majority of the instances; a handful had been closed with inadequate proof.

The case is Barraza v. Tesla, 21-cv-2714, Superior Court of California, Alameda County.
