Berry’s mother was a psychiatric nurse, and her father, Jerome Jesse Berry, was a hospital attendant. Berry has two older sisters, Heidi and Renee.

Berry attended Bedford High School in Bedford, Ohio, where she was a cheerleader, honor student, and editor of the school newspaper. After graduating in 1984, she attended Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland before transferring to the prestigious Hiram College. Berry studied broadcast journalism but dropped out of college to pursue a career in modeling.

In 1986, Berry won the Miss Teen All-American Pageant and then went on to become the first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant the following year. She began modeling for various magazines and brands, including Revlon and Maybelline.

Berry has two children. Her daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry was born in 2008, and her son Maceo Robert Martinez was born in 2013.
